Raising Dignity runs support projects to raise awareness of developing, and ongoing needs within the Cori-Anna College and the Malaika Mumma community. Our support projects address immediate needs with the ultimate goal of this community becoming self-sustaining.

PROJECTS

  • Cori-anna College Elemyonga

Established in 2017, students now have access to 2 meals a day, access to schooling each week, a place to sleep, access to medical care, clothing and people who see them as a gift - not a problem.

  • Malaika Mummas

Women who have been ostresised by society are given support and, are teamed up with rejected children. This is creating new families.

  • Malaika Homes

Everyone needs a place to call home. Our biggest project is building homes. Recourses and remoteness make this difficult but we have already broken ground.

  • Washable Nappies

Waste management, sanitation and health for babies is essential! We provided much needed re-usable nappies for the M’toto.

  • Manual Sewing Machines

Manual Sewing Machines were purchased for $110USD. These machines, and some lessons, have turned into a self-sustaining network,

We now have hand-sewn uniforms for the staff at Cori-anna College and, these women have started businesses and returning support to the community. Child-care is provided by those waiting their turn to learn to use these machines.

  • Nursing University

We have empowered several women in the community to seek education.

We have supported several students to attend university for nursing. These skills are now being used in the resourse-streched local hospital.

  • Nundu Hospital

We support the local hospital. It is essential we ensure this rural medical facility is active and available to the whole community. Maternity care, education and support for new mothers has created safety for them. Promised access to medication for the children has created security. Kindness from staff has created trust.

We are currently raising funds for Nundu Hospital to provide mattress’.

  • Food

  • Sanitary Items

We made washable santitation packs, provided underwear and wash bags.  All this helps ensure that women can manage their menstrual health with dignity, preventing the shame and social exclusion that many face in the absence of these supplies.

Furthermore, by ensuring access to proper sanitation products, communities empower women to participate fully in the workforce, contributing to broader economic development and gender equality across the continent.

  • Dignity Dresses

Clothing plays a vital role in the well-being and education of school children, providing not only protection from the elements but also a sense of dignity and belonging.

When children are well-dressed, it signals that someone cares for their needs and is watching over them, whether it's parents, teachers, or community members. This care is reflected in the investment in the child's future and well-being.

  • Paid Staff and Security

Payment of Staff means we can provide consistent support for these children who have either been orphaned or abandoned. They previously lived a life where they feel unwanted, and are seen as an inconvenience and embarrassment in the community. Until the Cori-Anna College community was established; these young children had no home, food, family or opportunity to improve their situation. Their daily existence was to seek shelter in the jungle, steal or beg for food, and hope no one would prey on their vulnerability. They now have adults looking out for their well-being.
